1. University Hospital Sharjah’s Aviation Clinic receives ISO 10002: 2014
University Hospital Sharjah’s Aviation Clinic receives ISO 10002: 2014 certificate for its complaint-handling process, becoming one of the few selected medical facilities in the UAE to receive the ISO 10002: 2014 Certification, which ensures best global practice in handling complaints. The certificate is in recognition of the hospital’s customer satisfaction and complain handling system for aviation clinical services.
2. UHS certified as a Mother Friendly Workplace
University Hospital Sharjah in coordination with the Baby Friendly City Sharjah Campaign, has been designated as a Mother Friendly Workplace. This is the first step for University Hospital Sharjah in ensuring that mothers (employees and visitors) have access to a private, clean and safe area in which to feed their infants during their work duty and visiting time to the facility.
University Hospital Sharjah is committed to the Baby Friendly City Sharjah Campaign and in conjunction with its designation as a Mother Friendly Workplace, the facility is working on its accreditation process for Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI).
BFHI is a worldwide programme of the World Health Organization and UNICEF, for improving the role of maternity services to enable mothers to breastfeed babies for the best start in life. It aims at improving the care of pregnant women, mothers and new-borns at health facilities that provide maternity services for protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding.
3. University Hospital Sharjah is now a GCAA approved “Aviation Clinic”
UHS is now is a General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) approved centre and will now be conducting GCAA aviation medicals.
Aviation Medicine is concerned with the health and safety of those who fly both crew and passengers. An Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) is a physician designated by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and given the authority to perform flight physical examinations and issue aviation medical certificates if the applicant meets regulatory requirements.
4. University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) is the first hospital in UAE to be named as “Friends of EUROSAFE imaging”
EuroSafe Imaging Campaign is an initiative of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), which has launched an awareness campaign to increase awareness of the importance of radiation protection and to promote quality and safety in medical imaging, the ESR has launched the EuroSafe Imaging Campaign and UHS is the first hospital in UAE to join the campaign by becoming Friends of EuroSafe Imaging
5. University Hospital Sharjah achieved JCI Accreditation
After a rigorous one week survey process, University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) has successfully earned full Joint Commission International (JCI) reaccreditation endorsing the quality of health care services it offers. UHS has been granted accreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI) of US for its quality and safety standards in patient care.
JCI accreditation is the 'gold' standard for hospitals which maintain high levels of patient care and safety. JCI standards focus on areas that directly impact patient care. These include access to care, assessment of patients, infection control, patient and family rights and education. Standards also address facility management and safety, staff qualifications, quality improvement, organisational leadership and management of information.

The JCI accreditation is expected to help the hospital strengthen community confidence in the quality and safety in patient care, treatment and service. It will also help organise and strengthen patient safety efforts.” said Mr. Michael Stroud, CEO, UHS.
JCI is a division of Joint Commission Resources Inc, an affiliate of the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organisations (JCAHO), an independent non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation to improve the quality healthcare in the US.
6. University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) recognized as UAE Super brand 2015
University Hospital Sharjah (UHS), has been recognised as one of the nation’s strongest brands by members of the Superbrands Council UAE.
The hospital has joined an elite group of organisations in the region to be awarded this accolade – the ‘Oscars’ for brands.
As the independent authority and arbiter of branding, Superbrands UAE boasts of over 4,000 marketing professionals from across the emirates. Every year, the council votes to recognise companies which elicit high levels of trust, goodwill and customer loyalty amongst other criteria, through a strict selection process.
7. HIMSS Analytics Honors University Hospital Sharjah with Stage 6 Recognition
University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) has been recognized by HIMSS Analytics for achieving Stage 6 on the EMR Adoption Model SM (EMRAM). This represents a significant advancement in the integrated healthcare network’s IT capabilities, positioning the hospital to deliver highest quality patient care.
The EMR Adoption Model was developed in 2005 by HIMSS Analytics, a nonprofit subsidiary of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), to evaluate the progress and impact of EMR systems for hospitals in its database. With the advanced electronic patient record environment of Stage 7 as the ultimate goal, hospitals can track their progress through eight stages (0-7) as they implement and utilize IT applications.
