Symptoms

Our Critical Care team at UHS provides urgent, specialized support for life-threatening conditions. Key warning signs may require immediate ICU admission:

Severe Difficulty Breathing

Sudden shortness of breath, inability to breathe normally, or the need for supplemental oxygen may indicate acute respiratory failure requiring urgent medical care.

Chest Pain or Pressure

Persistent chest discomfort, especially when accompanied by sweating, nausea, or dizziness, could be a sign of a heart attack or another serious cardiac emergency.

Sudden Confusion or Unresponsiveness

A sudden change in mental clarity, loss of consciousness, or seizure activity may point to a severe neurological event that needs immediate intervention.

Uncontrolled Bleeding or Severe Trauma

Major injuries, uncontrolled external bleeding, or suspected internal bleeding require rapid evaluation and intensive care support.

Dangerously Low or High Blood Pressure

Extreme fluctuations in blood pressure can lead to shock, organ dysfunction, or other life-threatening complications.

Sepsis or Severe Infection

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that demands urgent ICU care, and it may be signaled by high fever, rapid breathing, and low blood pressure when an infection is present.
