Workshop on Nursing Leadership in Action

The Nursing-Education Department at University Hospital Sharjah recently delivered an engaging workshop titled: “Nursing Leadership in Action: Building Stronger Teams for Better Care”, focusing on Shaping a Healthy & Engaged Work Environment.
 The workshop equipped nurse leaders and nurses, whether currently leading or preparing for future leadership roles with essential skills in communication, leadership styles, coaching, team-building, conflict resolution, and sharpening clinical judgment, while emphasizing strategies for creating a positive work environment.
 University Hospital Sharjah remains committed to developing confident, effective nursing leaders capable of building healthy, collaborative teams and delivering high-quality patient care

World Hand Hygiene Day 2024

 University Hospital Sharjah celebrated World Hand Hygiene Day 2024 on the 6th of May with a slogan from the World Health Organization, “Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene still so important? Because it helps stop the spread of harmful germs in health care.”

Organized by the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Committee with the support of the Hospital Management, the event started with a scientific session conducted by Dr. Bashirat Lola Giwa, Infectious Disease Consultant and the IPC Committee Chair about the importance of infection control practices in healthcare and followed by multiple educational activities among employees, patients and visitors about the significance of hand hygiene in preventing healthcare-associated infections and to achieve quality and safe patient care.

University Hospital in Sharjah organized an awareness lecture on " World Thalassemia Day " to help reduce the spread of this disease. Millions of people worldwide are affected by thalassemia, making it essential to raise awareness about the different types of the disease and the necessary tests for its diagnosis. The lecture also included information on how to manage the disease, available treatment options, and the provision of ongoing support for patients.

The UHS medical and nursing team has completed comprehensive training on handling shoulder dystocia drills, in partnership with the esteemed medicine school lab, University of Sharjah. Using The Lucina Neonatal and maternal childbirth simulator, the training aims to hone our team's skills and knowledge to ensure the best possible outcomes for both mother and child.

University Hospital Sharjah team participated in the awareness day organized by the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs, which aimed to provide health education for pilgrims before they travel for Hajj. Ms. Toujan Hassan, a Certified Diabetes Educator, delivered an informative lecture offering essential advice for diabetic patients during Hajj. Additionally, our team conducted a group of medical screenings for the attendees.

University Hospital Sharjah, in collaboration with the Friends of Arthritis Patients Association, organized an awareness lecture titled "Know How to Look After Your Joints". Dr. Ahmed Al-Zayat, a Consultant Rheumatologist at the UHS, delivered the lecture. He discussed various aspects of joint health and how to prevent these issues, in the presence of University of Sharjah students and UHS staff.

Cardiotocogram Workshop was hosted at UHS, bringing together obstetrician-gynecologists, nurses, and midwives to delve into the complexities of fetal monitoring, ensuring the utmost precision and compassion in interpreting the CTG while keeping the mother well-informed about her care. The workshop featured discussions on the latest CTG interpretation recommendations and case scenarios, to unify knowledge and enhance the multidisciplinary team’s skills. Our collective commitment is to elevate the standard of care for the expectant and their precious babies.

As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting health awareness, the University Hospital Sharjah team participated in a Mental Health Awareness event at the Sharjah Union Women’s Association. The event aimed to highlight the importance of mental health in our daily lives and improve quality of life through a balanced, healthy environment.

Dr. Khadija Al Zarouni, Aeromedical Examiner & Consultant Family Medicine, inaugurated the event with a welcoming speech. Our team also provided medical check-ups, psychological consultations, and Mental Health tests and distributed gifts from our participating companies.
